The fruit
Wild (Bitter) Cherry – (Prunus avium)
Wild cherry and apricots were first brought into Italy from Asia by the Roman warrior Lucio Lucullo.
When ripe, wild cherries are ruby red with an intense bouquet and tart, bitter flavour. The pulp is juicy and rich in vitamins, sugars and minerals. Also contains high levels of antioxidant polyphenols.
Wild cherry is an effective diuretic and laxative used for curing gout, arthritis, kidney stones and urinary infections. An excellent tonic.
