The fruit
STRAWBERRY (Fragaria vesca)
Strawberries first grew wild in the Alps where the Romans named them ‘fragrans’ after their intense fragrance.
Red, fleshy, sweet and pretty, strawberries boast so many nutritional virtues: highly antioxidant with more vitamin C than citrus fruits ( just 5 strawberries match an orange), rich in calcium, iron and magnesium. They are refreshing, cleansing and diuretic.
The recipe
“Senga Sengana”, “Gorella”, “Marmolada” and “Solana” varieties of strawberry. Apple sugar.
The flavour
Sweet, wholesome.
Rigoni ideas
Strawberry jam for breakfast and again for tea, the British love it on scones with thick Devonshire cream and its a great American favourite, too. Sublime with fresh cream cheese.
