The fruit

Pink and white grapefruits belong to the same citrus species although the pink variety could become autonomous.

Grapefruit is the only fruit not considered to originate in South-East Asia, but from Central America where it is said to have been discovered in 1750 in Barbados or the Bahamas. They are a hybrid plant from pomelo and oranges.

Pink grapefruits owe their colour to the same lycopene chemical found in Grapefruits have a low glycemic index, are rich in vitamin C and natural antioxidants.

Pink grapefruits have a sweeter flavour than the yellow variety to create a clean tasting, slightly sweet marmalade.
