The fruit
MANDARIN (Citrus Nobilis)
Mandarins are originally a Chinese fruit and bear the same name as high ranking counsellors of the Chinese Empire who were greatly revered for their wisdom and good judgement.
Mandarins were not introduced to Europe until 1828 and nowadays they are cultivated in the Mediterranean, United States and South Africa. This small and brightly coloured fruit ripens in Autumn and like all citrus fruits boasts a healthy reserve of vitamin C, fibre, calcium and potassium. The peel contains antioxidants.
