Fiordifrutta Cornelian CherryCORNELIAN CHERRY (Cornus mas)
Cornelian Cherries are more typically found in central-eastern Europe, the Middle-East and Asia. Its name originates from latin and refers to the hard wood of its tree trunk (Corne in Latin – horn in English). The plant is cultivated for its fruit and floral decoration.
The olive-shaped cherries change from green to yellow, from orange to bright red and become an opaque, wine colour. The fruit is best when fully ripe: sharp but also sweet and extremely refreshing. Cornelian Cherries are high in vitamin C (more than double the amount contained in citrus fruits). They are also high in carotene, pectine and tannin. Considered an excellent astringent.
